AVG 8 antivirus users who use basic modems as opposed to routers will often see this message when you start their computer. “The connection with the update server has failed”. This is quite normal and simply due to the fact that AVG has tried to update itself but they are not yet on the internet, (Router users are connected to the internet automatically when the PC starts up). AVG will try to update itself again once you are on the internet so you should not need to take any action.  If however the AVG icon (on the bottom right of the taskbar) shows a warning exclamation mark (!) after you’ve been on the internet a while, click on the AVG icon and then click on the “Update” button and it will update manually.
