Dated 16th June 2008 Warning regarding your Windows Updates. In with your normal Windows updates, you could soon be prompted to install an update from Microsoft called Windows XP Service pack 3 or Windows Vista Service pack 1 depending on whether you have a XP or Visa based computer. These are important updates that will improve your computer’s performance and security and should be downloaded. The purpose of this email is to warn you that they are both very large and slow updates (particularly the Vista one), and the installation process could take a very long time especially on lower powered computers, in some cases over one hour. There will be a message as normal saying “Installing updates. Do not switch off you computer”. It is very important you adhere to this message as if the PC is turned off during the update; it will probably damage your system terminally. I’ve have several reports of people who have turned the computer off whilst the warning screen was still on thinking that their PC had “frozen”, and found to their cost that they had seriously damaged their system and could not re-start it. Please allow your machine plenty of time to fully update and it should turn itself off automatically. |
